Why interior design?
My parents allowed me to design my own bedroom and, with that, it was
constantly evolving—installing wallpaper, changing my carpet from beige to
blue, putting up cabinetry, taking down cabinetry, rearranging furniture and
switching out fabrics. Often I would sneak out of bed and rearrange things at
night so I could wake up to a whole new scene in the morning.
What’s California wine style, and what does
“bringing the outdoor indoors” mean to you?
We can seamlessly bring the indoors out due to California’s beautiful
climate. Blurring the lines expands our homes’ square footage to enjoy
multiple spaces in a healthy, vibrant way. Lounging and entertaining al fresco
encourages the California-casual feel while keeping things simple related to
palette, maintenance, and materials.
Where do you get your design inspiration from?
Everywhere from interior design markets and the natural environment to
walking and exploring on foot. Elements of another culture are extremely
inspiring when designing products and spaces for clients.
How does sustainability come to life through tile
and design elements?
Years ago, we searched high and low for sustainable products; they would be
expensive and most likely beige in coloration. Today, tile and other interior-design
products are beautiful and sustainable–it is simply a given versus a search.
What’s something you’d like to see happen for
sustainable design?
Innovation continues with durability and technology in mind. If we can shift
consumer purchasing to embrace products that last and invest in things
that will serve our lifestyle for a lifetime, we have achieved something.
