Tile adds value to a home because of it’s longevity, cost-effectiveness, and versatility. ~ Karen Faber, Harry Norman Realtors
At this year’s Coverings Expo (a preeminent event for the ceramic tile and natural stone industry in North America), Atlanta realtor Karen Faber with Harry Norman Realtors, spoke about tile’s advantages for residential real estate on the market. She focused on the quality and beauty of tile and how other flooring types pale in comparison.
As an experienced realtor, Faber is pro-tile as a surfacing of choice when it comes to selling a home. She shares that tile can go anywhere in and around the home: floors, walls, ceilings, and even the backyard. Additionally, tile is a versatile design element that can cover an entire surface or be used as an accent or focal point. Faber also emphasized that tile is an enduring material that lasts a long time.
Potential buyers strongly prefer properties that are move-in ready and that they can picture themselves living in. Sellers need to be aware of these facts. If a home’s surfacing has failed over the years (think vinyl flooring that has cupped seams and edges popping up), the comprised surfacing indicates lack of maintenance and care by the homeowners. Faber recommends sellers replace worn out flooring or other areas with surfaces that more current, durable, and long-lasting – like tile!
In contrast, Faber advises against luxury vinyl. Though it’s a relatively popular product, it doesn’t have the durability and longevity of the tile that it often tries to visually mimic.
