Endless Summer: Pool Season Never Ceases

Labor Day is just around the corner, and for many of us, that signals the end of summer. In many parts of the country, the day after the holiday, swimming pools are closed, and backyard barbecues come to a halt. But the end of summer does not necessarily mean that pool season has ended. While spring and early summer are typically considered “pool season” for pool and patio installations, there are many compelling reasons to build your pool in the fall.

10 Reasons to Build Your Pool in the Fall

1. If you start building a swimming pool in the spring, unexpected delays and rainy weather can throw your whole timeline off, which can be very disappointing if you have high hopes of having a pool in time for birthdays, holidays, and other celebrations. Building a pool in the fall will allow you to rest easy, knowing your pool will be ready for summer.

2. Missing the height of the pool-building season means you have a better chance of finding a contractor without many other jobs that could divert attention from your pool project.

3. Building a swimming pool in the fall may mean easier permitting. Permit offices have less demand during the fall season, allowing them to process documents faster.

4. Cooler, more moderate temperatures could mean happier construction workers. The construction team won’t be thinking about how soon they can get in the air-conditioned indoors (so they can fully concentrate on building your pool).

5. Landscaping around the pool areas is much more pleasant in cooler weather, and many trees and perennial plants are best planted early in the fall. Planting in the fall while the soil is still warm will give the roots enough time to establish properly. Fall planting allows plants to emerge from well-established roots with a stronger start the following spring.

6. Fall swimming pool construction allows your yard to recover over the winter before summer arrives.

7. If you build your swimming pool in the fall, you’ll be ready to cool down in your new pool when temperatures spike in the spring.

8. If you are also building a hot tub to accompany your new pool, the fall and winter months are the best times to enjoy it.

9. If you build a heated pool, you can start to enjoy it right away, and you may be able to use it year round, depending on where you live.

10. Building the pool in the fall means you could split the construction cost and build the deck in the spring to avoid one giant cash outlay.
