“Design Then, Design Now, Design Next”
In 2017, more than 30 professionals gathered at the 20th annual IIDA Industry Roundtable to reflect on two decades of design — from assessing its past and present, to predicting how design might rise to the challenges of the future. To highlight the round table’s 20th anniversary, IIDA enlisted four visionary speakers to reflect on the past two decades of commercial interior design and to look forward to where the industry might be headed. The result was a far-reaching and exciting dialogue that connected the dots between many previous round table topics including economic volatility, the rise of socially mediated millennials, diversity, evolving hiring practices, and more.
Participating industry leaders were asked to contribute their thoughts on where they see the design industry in 5 to 10 years. Here’s insight from our own Mark Shannon.
“My read is the interior design industry is getting healthier and more diversified all the time as needs for workplace and environments continue to change due to the evolving workforce and technology. This will make it incumbent for design to play a major role.” ~ Mark Shannon, Ind. IIDA
