Crossville Contributes Tile for Two More Specially Adapted Smart Homes Built by Gary Sinise Foundation

May 23, 2018

As we continue with our support of the Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment) program, we’re excited to announce the recent completion and dedication of two more specially adapted smart homes. It’s an honor to be the exclusive tile supplier for these amazing homes built for deserving wounded heroes and their families.

Here’s a look at the latest recipients, as well as an overview of how our tile collections play a role in the design and functionality of these special homes.

U.S. Navy EOD Tech Taylor Morris

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Tech Taylor Morris was leading a team in Afghanistan when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated beneath him. He lost all four limbs.

Morris’ family were welcomed in their new home on April 5 in Iowa. More than 1,800 square feet of Crossville tile was installed in the master bath, the guest bath, and the sunroom.

The master bath floor and shower feature Crossville’s Moonstruck collection in the Kosmos hues, which beautifully incorporate sandstone-textures and rich striations reminiscent of ancient native rock formations for a relaxing neutral toned space. In addition, the design team specified Yin + Yang for the shower floors, which beautifully added a sense of balance with its mix of shape and sizes. The designer also specified Moonstruck in Kosmos for the guest bath spaces.

The Morris’ sunroom also incorporated Crossville’s Moonstruck collection in its Gemini palette providing a rugged yet functional design to the space.

U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Brandon Dodson

On Aug. 9, 2014 during his fifth deployment, U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Brandon Dodson (Ret.) and his platoon were on a mission in a small village when he stepped on a hidden pressure-plated improvised explosive device (IED). Dodson suffered severe injuries from the blast, which required him to a have a double leg amputation above the knee.

As the son of a Marine, Dodson has lived in many different places around the world, but he considers San Diego home. He proudly received his new home in the San Diego area on May 2, 2018. More than 650 square feet of Crossville tile was installed in the master bath, the guest baths, and the kitchen.

The master bath floor and shower feature Crossville’s Altered State collection in Acid Wash hues, which artfully mimics oxidized metal in porcelain tile. Adding a chic element in the master bath, the designers incorporated Crossville’s Sideview Glass in Copper. These faceted metallic tiles reflect eye-catching style from every angle and add a modern take of razzle-dazzle, art deco grandeur.

The guest bath also featured Crossville’s Altered State collection in Acid Wash, with complementary walls featuring Crossville’s Groove Glass in Rumba. These glass tiles sidestep humdrum design and incorporate smooth stylings for the Dodson’s guests.

For the powder room, the designer specified Crossville’s Yin + Yang collection in Black Dragon in an elongated hex pattern providing a unique sense of balance to a small area.
