In the past, we have celebrated Earth Day by announcing our yearly and cumulative goals for our recycling programs. While “making less waste” still is and will continue to be at the heart of our sustainability efforts, last year, we celebrated a new milestone in our sustainability journey – the announcement of our carbon reduction goals and plans, along with the launch of our first carbon-neutral porcelain tile collections, Civilization and Native Metal, which won Metropolis Magazine’s prestigious Planet Positive Award. The awards winners represent the highest achievements today in design that address climate change, ecosystem health, human health, and equity.
Our First Carbon-Neutral Tile Products Aren’t Our Last
Beljn carbon-neutral porcelain tile
When we launched our first carbon-neutral tile products last spring, we promised they wouldn’t be the last. Staying true to our word, we introduced our third carbon-neutral porcelain tile collection, Beljn, in January. We are also working on developing more carbon-neutral tile products, so please stay tuned for updates!
About Crossville’s Carbon Reduction Goals and Plans
Native Metal carbon-neutral porcelain tile
Concerns over climate change, global warming potential, and carbon’s impact on the environment have led us to examine our energy usage and the carbon footprint of our products. We have demonstrated our commitment to mitigating climate change and reducing our products’ environmental impact by setting carbon reduction goals.
We have set two new goals for the future.
1. Achieve an additional 10% reduction in our tile’s global warming potential by 2024.
2. Achieve a 30% carbon reduction from the 2014 baseline by 2030.
These goals not only help reduce our porcelain products’ carbon footprint, but they also serve as a model for other organizations in the industry, inspiring them to prioritize sustainability and protect the planet. Additionally, by launching carbon-neutral products, Crossville provides eco-friendly options for consumers who are increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of the products they purchase. A Product from the Earth Should Have Minimal Impact on the Earth
Beljn carbon-neutral, exterior-finish porcelin tile
Since we began manufacturing porcelain tile in Crossville, Tennessee, we have recognized the importance of minimizing the impact of our products on the environment. To that end, green has always been our signature color. Our sustainability intentions began on day one, but we didn’t stop there: We designed and remodeled our plants to reduce manufacturing’s impact on our natural resources. Our product development teams strive for the same. Our core value of partnership has us working diligently with our supply chain to help them improve beyond the walls of our factories and service locations. Our ongoing sustainability efforts reflect our belief that the built environment should promote well-being in our lives, both at home, work, and play.
