Picture this: One of our devoted A&D representatives, Heidi Vassalotti, is working out in a hotel gym one morning when her “what tile is that?” radar goes off as she’s watching a video on the gym TV. On screen, she sees shots of a fellow dancing in a mall setting, cutting a rug—if you will—over tile flooring that certainly looks to be one of Crossville’s collections.
With a little investigation, Heidi confirms that the scene she’s seen is, indeed, a Crossville installation! Portions of the video for Sara Bareilles’ hit song “Brave” were filmed at Northridge Fashion Center in California, where Crossville tile abounds. See for yourself…
The tile that Heidi so astutely identified is Crossville’s Shades collection in the inset, surrounded by the Empire line in the primary field throughout the mall. The Northridge installation is a masterpiece of Crossville tile in action. We even earned a Project Green Platinum award this year in honor of the exceptionally environmentally sound use of tile in this beautiful location.
It’s fitting that “Brave” was filmed at Northridge. This 1.5 million sq. ft. mall that hosts 18 million visitors each year suffered the effects of a major earthquake in 1994. The owner/developer has taken careful measures since that time to ensure the integrity of the facility. When a massive renovation was launched a few years ago, the design team opted to cover 90% of the mall’s common areas in Crossville’s durable, beautiful and environmentally-friendly porcelain tile.
In using our tile with recycled content, meticulously installed to accommodate the site’s substrate issues, the architectural firm ensured a lasting installation that will require minimal maintenance and will perform for the long term without need of repair or replacement.
