Introduction

Austin’s hippest businesses and residents are moving farther and farther east, and the Govalle area has swiftly become an eclectic mix of shopping, dining, and more. Located in the heart of East Austin’s Govalle neighborhood, The Guthrie apartment homes are attracting an urban-suburban mix of residents who crave close proximity to the area’s outdoor pursuits and the city’s vibrant nightlife.

At The Guthrie, the design team planned a 322-unit urban garden project efficiently utilizing the site space to create the feel of a boutique hotel with top-of-the-market amenities. Residents enjoy sophisticated designs and gathering spaces including a clubroom and lounge area, business center, fitness room, rooftop, and a large courtyard with swimming pool, outdoor kitchen, lawn, shaded seating, dining area, and a fire pit.

The  Story

In developing unique common areas for the property, the team focused on blending finishes throughout the facility in a Hill Country style. Finding tile that worked with the property setting, as well as coordinating with the indigenous materials in the area, was of utmost importance during the specification phase of the project. Selecting Crossville’s Altered State collection for two common areas was an easy part of the process.

For the mailroom, the team installed Altered State in the Copper Core hue on all the mailbox islands. Altered State artfully mimics the look of oxidized copper in durable porcelain tile. The collection’s extremely unique surface visual is achieved through Crossville’s Digital+ technology and is made in the USA. Decked in this stunning tile, the mailbox islands evoke a convincing metallurgic appearance yet offer the high performance of tile needed in a heavy traffic area.

The team also chose Crossville’s Altered State in Copper Core for the feature wall in the game room with the large screen TV. Drawing the eye to the space centered around gray brick columns, the feature wall adds a warm yet industrial and rustic look. The design team kept the installation simple and classic with a traditional stack pattern.

Conclusion

With beautiful amenities and modern design that includes an innovative surfacing solution from Crossville, The Guthrie stylishly welcomes Austinites home from the hustle and bustle of the city.
