Crossville, Tennessee | February 10, 2023
Introduction
Renovating a residential kitchen can be a daunting task. From cabinets to flooring and walls to countertops, making these many decisions can paralyze homeowners and scare them away from the process. For some homeowners, the challenge and DIY process is exciting. And then, there are those homeowners who recognize their limitations and involve designers and contractors to ensure their vision becomes a reality.
Either way, if you are choosing a designer or going on your DIY adventure, before you start selecting materials, identifying the renovation goals for aesthetics and function makes the process go smoothly. If you have lived in the home for some time, you will know if the area functions as you need it or if major renovations are required.
The Story
After moving into their home in 2015, the couple was ready for an upgrade from the standard builder-installed countertops and finishes. The kitchen had served its purpose but felt the space could be better utilized. The couple wanted a brighter, more polished space to compliment the modern rustic vibe throughout the rest of their home. Removing the peninsula countertop and adding an island totally transformed the space.
As she was envisioning the new space, the homeowner wanted a bold green cabinet color. For the backsplash, the homeowner wanted a timeless look that would provide contrast with the new black countertops and green cabinets. With Crossville’s Handwritten mosaic tile in Unscripted, the tile provided a more nuanced look offering a handmade artisanal style, beautifully coordinating the kitchen to the rustic vibe feel throughout the home.
Additionally, the homeowners installed Handwritten in the Leaf Mosaic on their built-in wall adding visual interest to a more decorative space. “This is now our favorite wall in our home! The pattern is so unique and truly looks different every time we look at it. It gave us the wow factor we were hoping for!”
Although this kitchen renovation was a Do-It-Yourself project, the homeowners have a lot of construction experience. He was an electrician for 13 years and is now a superintendent for a large commercial general contractor. His father is also a general contractor and had a custom carpentry business for 30 years. Because of their construction renovation experience, it took about two months of weekend work to complete the kitchen. The couple also refinished and restained the floors, painted the entire downstairs, and added crown molding throughout the first level.
Conclusion
With the updated kitchen, this couple will enjoy their home for many years to come. Choosing Crossville tile provided the look they desired through the vast color and shape options of the Handwritten collection.
