Introduction

As one of the nation’s leading interior designers, Michelle Workman envisions high-end residential and commercial spaces from concept to creation. Whether working with an A-list celebrity or a hotelier with a boutique brand, she’s focused on showcasing each client’s unique personality and style.

Workman certainly brought this focus to the stunning renovation of a farmhouse located on 13 secluded acres formerly used as an equestrian farm near Chattanooga, Tennessee. Throughout this notable project, Workman integrated design details with tasteful attention to the latest trends and quality finishes. Her interior design vision yielded an efficient smart home with a classic aesthetic that’s ready for relaxation, entertaining, and all that comes with a busy family’s lifestyle.

The  Story

Workman’s use of new materials is at the heart of the farmhouse’s transformation, and Crossville tile collections are stand-outs in many rooms of the home. From the kitchen to bathrooms, Crossville offered the creative solutions Workman needed to achieve the updated looks desired and performance required.

In the kitchen, Workman chose four shade variations of Crossville’s Glass Blox tile to create a nuanced backsplash. The mix of colors in the tile serves to create a transition from the darker tone of the lower cabinets and countertops to the lighter color of the upper cabinets. The inventive use of color on cabinets and in the multi-hued tile dresses the kitchen in custom creativity.

In the primary bath, Workman incorporated Crossville Porcelain Tile Panels by Laminam in the Filo collection. Filo tile panels capture a look reminiscent of sheet metal yet offer all the performance benefits of porcelain tile—a must for any bathroom design. The slight shimmer of the tile panels offers a perfectly understated glamorous effect for the farmhouse, and because the tile panels are installed with minimal grout line, they create an uninterrupted, panoramic backdrop for the soaking tub area. Workman coordinated the Filo tub surround on walls with Crossville’s Yin + Yang collection on the floor. She opted for the Snowflower color in an elongated hex marble mosaic to ground the space in classicism. The other bathroom walls were hand-painted with different shades of green to create a geode effect.

The guest bathroom also features a mix of classicism and modern sensibility, with tile at the foundation of the overall look. To achieve the modern touch, Workman chose Crossville’s Nest collection in Meditative Mosaic. This selection offers the clean and sophisticated look of wood flooring in a porcelain tile that provides the performance characteristics needed in for the wet environment of a bathroom. Workman coordinated the wood look of Nest on the floor with the classic appeal of the marble-inspired I Naturali gauged porcelain tile panels for the shower walls. The I Naturali in Statuario Venato creates a Roman Bath feel for the oversized shower area.

For the Jack and Jill bathroom, Workman incorporated an edgy pattern using a mix of the contrasting black and white hues of the Yin + Yang tile collection. The pattern created brings a fresh, fun feel to the shared space. The traditional black and white combination coordinates with the multiple colors in the bathroom. The achieved look breaks away from a classic design to offer an updated feel to this area of the farmhouse.

Conclusion

With Workman’s talent, vision, and artful mix of materials, this Tennessee residence converges “modern” and “farmhouse” to offer timelessly appealing aesthetics and quality sure to be enjoyed for many years to come.
