Keep Lake Jackson Beautiful
Lake Jackson, Texas | February 10, 2023
Introduction
When the City of Lake Jackson specified a new monument located on a prominent corner near their Municipal Court building, iAD Architects partnered with Waterjet Works to design an intricate piece incorporating the city’s Enchanted Oak logo that would be mounted as an art piece on a standing pedestal.
The Story
According to iAD, “We needed a color-fast and durable tile product but also wanted the ability to have a very intricate logo as the prominent feature of the monument sign.” Working with Crossville, the team selected the Color Blox 2.0 porcelain tile collection for its diverse selection of beautiful warm colors that will withstand extreme weather conditions in Texas.
Waterjet Works, located in Dallas, Texas, specializes in custom fabrication and utilized the latest technology that made all the difference in this tile installation project. The team chose numerous Color Blox 2.0 tile colors to develop the stunning blues, greens, and browns in the Enchanted Oak logo.
iAD worked with the general contractor and framing team to understand the importance of extremely tight tolerances for the base substrate to accommodate the intricate design. Additionally, the entire surface of the finished product was on a fairly steep angle which created more challenges in finishing the concrete sub-base of the tile bed.
Conclusion
With the beautiful new artwork celebrating the City of Lake Jackson, residents will be able to enjoy this stunning piece for years to come without worry of the tile fading or scratching. And, they can appreciate the Color Blox 2.0 tile as a responsible material selection as it is made in the USA, Green Square Certified, and Petal Certified by the International Living Future Institute.
