Introduction

As the owner and principal designer of Design Loft Interiors, Joanne Rumney has positively contributed to the design community in Jacksonville, Florida, for more than 20 years. She has a uniquely sophisticated yet welcoming aura—a great balance for any homeowner who wants to hand over the reins to a trusted interior designer and let her work her magic. This was just the case when a former Chicagoan newscaster and his wife retained her to transform their Florida home that was in need of a complete renovation.

The  Story

The interior of the couple’s home was consumed in an electrical fire while they were out of town. Additionally, the looming 2020 pandemic began making headlines, and it was clear the massive renovation project must be done urgently to ensure the couple had a home as things started to shut down.

After the structural needs of the home were completed, Rumney chose materials and furnishings that would create a calm, restful oasis. Working with their pre-selected furniture in a gray and blue color scheme, she focused the design on a casual yet elegant place of comfort that the couple could call home again. 

Teaming with Crossville, Rumney specified an array of tile collections bringing beauty and functionality to the redesigned interior spaces.

Entering the primary bath, there is an immediate feeling of serenity and bliss imparted by a well-ordered hierarchy of golds, grays, and whites. Without the presence of differing blue hues that we see throughout the rest of the home, this room really stands alone and has clearly been designed specifically for its owners. Crossville’s stunning State of Grace collection was installed on the primary bath floor and the shower walls. Rumney selected the 12”x24” field tiles which provided the nuanced, marble-inspired graphics in porcelain tile offering the Italianate beauty to the coastal dream house. The large field tiles provided a seamless appearance making the gold and glass features sparkle like crystals in white sand. Rumney added a beautiful mosaic shower wall feature offering neutral brown tones against the marble of State of Grace.
