Introduction

Cape Cod Regional Technical High School (CCT) in Harwich, Massachusetts has a reputation as one of the most renowned and respected secondary schools offering career and technical education. The community demonstrated its commitment to the school when citizens overwhelmingly voted in favor of $104 M in funding to build a new 214,000 SF CCT facility. The building, situated on 67 acres, features 22 general classrooms, five small group spaces, six science labs, two art areas, and 17 vocational classrooms.

The  Story

In envisioning the spaces in which faculty would provide 21st century learning and advance a progressive educational philosophy, the design team established lofty goals to enhance students’ experiences. The team paid special attention to the overall layout, opting to group academic spaces around specific career tech programs. This configuration fosters a sense of community and collaboration among the program students. Likewise, the designers sought to integrate features and materials befitting the future-focused curriculum that’s the driving force of the school.

The walls of the open, two-story lobby and stairwells proved to be ideal areas to make bold design statements that convey CCT’s renowned reputation. Project specifiers selected Crossville Porcelain Tile Panels by Laminam as coverings for these expansive surfaces that connect the school’s café and learning commons. With extremely generous outer dimensions of over 3’x9’, these tile panels may be installed with minimal grout lines for a contemporary, uninterrupted look. Choosing from the wide range of looks available in Crossville’s porcelain tile panel collections, the designers ultimately selected from five different panel collections to skin the walls in the main lobby, the café and the commons areas beautifully blending colors and styles.

The light weight of the Crossville porcelain tile panels made the installation a smooth process for the installers working on a scissor lift. When the installation team faced questions about material cutting, the Crossville Technical Department was readily available and assisted in order to guide the team through any application issues.

Beyond the aesthetic appeal and installation efficiencies, Crossville’s porcelain tile panels hit the mark in terms of performance and durability, as well. These tile panels offer the technical specifications necessary to endure beautifully even in the high traffic zones of the school’s busiest common areas.

Conclusion

As a new hub of learning with its specialized classrooms and labs, Cape Cod Regional Technical High School will continue to be an integral part of their local community. Thanks to leading-edge design elements—including Crossville’s porcelain tile panels, the school is fully in step with the future of Cape Cod and beyond.
