Nichols-Mock Elementary School
Rosharon, Texas | February 10, 2023
Introduction
Strong academics and outstanding opportunities for students continue to make Alvin Independent School District a premier education choice for families in the Houston area. Averaging 4.5 percent growth annually and adding about 1,000 students each year, the citizens of the school district approved a $480 million bond program to enhance and construct new schools.
The Story
Construction for Nichols-Mock Elementary began in February 2022 with an ambitious goal to open in August 2023. Designed to provide a well-balanced elementary learning environment, the team prioritized education with a focus on safety and security. Students at the new facility enjoy an upgraded fall-safe playground surface, and parents appreciate a well-designed traffic flow system.
With a capacity of 800 students, the new facility spans more than 101,000 square feet. Surfacing specifications required solutions that complemented the new school’s branding and would be durable and easy to maintain. Because of the construction timeline, keeping the project on track was critical, and having the surfacing materials readily available played into the design team’s selection.
For wall surfacing throughout the new school, the design team chose the Crossville Argent collection and Ready to Wear collection in a stunning combination of colorways. Thanks to Crossville’s diverse color palette in durable porcelain with multiple size options, these tile collections met the needs and desires of the design staff and the district.
Choosing the Crossville Ready to Wear collection in Hand in Glove and Perfect Fit hues, the team installed the 12” x 24” tiles in a standard offset pattern. For every third row of tile, the team added Crossville’s Argent collection in the cheerful colors of Grapes of Wrath, Memphis Blues, and Under the Sea in the 6” x 24” option.
Conclusion
With easy maintenance and cleaning for the long term, the Crossville collections brought a colorful, modern touch to the walls in these busy spaces. The new Nichols-Mock Elementary School will proudly be educating Texans for years to come.
