Coverings’ Top Ten Tile Trends and the Crossville Tile Collections that Align

Coverings, North America's largest international tile and stone exhibition and conference, has announced the top ten ceramic tile trends for 2023. The tile trends were gathered and forecasted by the three leading international tile associations and sponsors of Coverings 2023 — Ceramics of Italy, Tile Council of North America, and Tile of Spain — to highlight the most popular, on-trend styles of tile from the global marketplace. Let's look at the Crossville tile collections that align with these trends.
March 31, 2023

1. Bricks Trend

Brick shaped ceramic tiles can be stacked horizontally or vertically to create monochromatic designs or mixed with different  colors to create various patterns like stripes, chevron, and herringbone. Crossville’s Swatches, Handwritten, Cursive, Color by Numbers, and Groove Glass wall tile collections offer brick sizes in many colors that can be arranged in an almost endless array of patterns. Our RetroActive 2.0 is just one brick-like porcelain tile line that is suitable for both floors and walls. In fact, you’ll find many of our porcelain floor tile collections (also suitable for walls), like Color Box 2.0  and Ready to Wear,  offer rectangular shapes in sizes that are suitable for creative brick patterns.

2. Cemented Tile Trend

Concrete looks can bring visual harmony to a space and still evoke a raw, urban energy. A worn patina with subtle color variation makes cement-look tiles versatile and suitable for many applications. Turn to Crossville’s Gotham and Notorious porcelain tile collections or our Blend porcelain panels by Laminam for big city style in the distinct look of concrete.

3. Cobbled Tile Trend

Large-scale aggregate looks ranging from time-worn terrazzo to cobblestone to Byzantine mosaics can ground a space with a foundation of history but with the modern technology of large format porcelain tile and panels. Our Alaska porcelain tile offers ultra-realistic graphics that mimc terrazzo in looks but with performance unheard of in traditional terrazzo materials.

4 Creative uses of Wood-Look Tile Trend

Ceramic tile manufacturers have perfected the art of wood-like tile — it’s an important solution for projects that desire the look of real wood  but require the ease of maintenance that ceramic  or porcelain tile provides. Creative applications of wood-look tile, especially whendifferent elements are combined, are quickly becoming preferred. Crossville has no shortage of wood-look tiles that you can make your own. Look to SpeakEasy and Nest porcelain tile collections and Legno Venezia porcelain panels.

7. Mother Nature-Inspired Indoor-Outdoor Tile Trend

Connecting interior and exterior living spaces with ceramic tile inspired by Mother Nature blurs the line between the built environment and natural settings, which encourages a better, more-flexible use of available space. Crossville excels at providing anti-slip, easy-to-maintain porcelain surface solutions that enhance Mother Nature’s natural offerings. We offer 2 cm thick outdoor pavers to match their thinner indoor counterparts, allowing designs to flow from indoors to outdoors with stylistic continuity. Our textile like Ready to Wear, the dimensional tiles of Simpatico wall tile, the split-gauged texture of Ardesia a Spacco porcelain panels, our leathered finish Owen Stone tiles, and opera chain-mail like textured Filo porcelain panels  are textured selections that beautifully ground designs to help beckon the senses and create a desire to experience the space to its fullest.

9. The ’70s Tile Trend

A decade defined by dichotomies, the ’70s was  celebration of spectacle with glam rock, flashy prints, and metallic accessories. The decade was also very naturalistic and breezy. Patterns evoking sailing vibes, including stripes, wavy patterns, and wood paneling were all the rage then. Pop art florals and earthy tones were also prevalent, Crossviile collections that align with the groovy tile trend we’re seeing today are Shades 2.0 floor and wall tile,  Simpatico wall tile,   Cursive wall tile with it’s retro color palette and shapes, and our Classic Grooves porcelain floor and wall tile collection that pays homage extraordinary comeback of vinyl albums.

10. Undulated Tile Trend

The desire for handcrafted goods is a strong trend, and this holds true for ceramic tile.  Manufacturers are now able to create subtle undulations in the tile’s surface that emulate manually applied thick glazes. These gently uneven surfaces draw the eye and create the sense that each tile was crafted by a skilled artisan. Crossville’s Cursive  and Handwritten wall tiles are manufactured to appear handmade and will have inherent, intentional variations that occur in size, thickness, flatness, color, and width from grout joint to grout joint.
