This desire to blend elements of the outdoor environment into the interior of buildings may be on trend today, but it has a long history. This form of design has its roots in the Renaissance era. From one of the earliest documented biomimicry ideas of Leonardo DaVinci creating a flying machine based on the actions of birds, designers have long been inspired by nature. From color choices to incorporating live plants, interior designers routinely rely on biomimicry to achieve peaceful spaces similar to those found in nature.
Biomimicry and sustainability typically work hand-in-hand, but it is good to note that just because a design incorporates biomimetic principles doesn’t always mean it is environmentally-friendly. At Crossville, we’re committed to the environment, and we offer full transparency regarding our products’ impact on habitat and water use, as well as their support of human health and safety.
Additionally, we’ve taken note of the biomimetic principles and have introduced numerous porcelain tile collections that blend natural tones and textures into sustainably produced tile allowing designers to creatively explore sustainable biomimetic spaces.
