Crossville – The Advantages of a Tile Manufacturer Born—and Raised—in the USA

July 3, 2019

More than 34 years ago, Crossville, Inc. started making tile in the USA from its home base in Crossville, Tennessee. Visionaries with the Curran Group, the family-owned, privately-held parent company of Crossville, Inc. and other enterprises, had foreseen the potential of producing porcelain tile on U.S. soil. They strategically selected Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau to build this business for many reasons, including the location’s proximity to raw material resources, the community’s business-friendly environment, and the available workforce in the area.

It was many years before another porcelain tile manufacturer brought operations to the U.S. Today, many makers have set up shop in America, following Crossville’s 30+-year lead as the domestic producer of premium quality, certified porcelain tile. The market has grown, as have the size formats and array of offerings available in porcelain tile. All along the way, Crossville has held its position as the industry innovator and leader in the U.S.. And the innovation and leadership goes far beyond product development. The company is the standard bearer for sustainable processes and practices and has achieved many firsts in the tile category, including becoming the only net consumer of waste (using more waste in manufacturing than is produced).

First and foremost a family business, Crossville has a solid root system and takes unique, measured approaches. These approaches benefit the company’s employees, distribution partners, the A&D community, the installation and fabrication industry, and—of  course—tile’s end-users.

Products Made in the USA: It’s essential that tile collections be readily available for projects. That’s why our U.S. manufacturing and superior order fulfillment solutions are major advantages for our customers.

Grounded in Core Values: Through the guidance of the Curran Group, Crossville operates with five core values that are the heart and soul of everything the company does: family, integrity, respect, partnership. and improvement. These are the keys to the long success of the business and brand and ensure an exceptional culture for every employee, customer, biz partner, and supplier.

Focus on the Long-term: The business philosophy of Curran Group guides Crossville to focus on profitability and long-term return on investment over growing marketshare. These returns must also bear fair returns for employees, customers, and suppliers.

Commitment to Product Development for the U.S. Market: Crossville has vast resources across the globe yet never veers from the U.S.-focus and perspective that guides the team to create products sure to appeal to North American sensibilities and adhere to specification demands.

Investment in Training and Education for Specifiers and Installers: Crossville always takes measured efforts to ensure those who will specify and install innovative new products have the training and practical education necessary to confidently work with Crossville’s surfacing solutions.

Prioritization of Sustainable Practices, Processes, and Products: Being green is in Crossville’s DNA. Not only is it the right thing to do, but it’s the smart thing to do for business. And while the company already far exceeds requirements in the arena of sustainability, the team always seeks to take the green initiatives to the next levels.

Future-focused Innovation to Take the Company and Its Customers Further: Today, Crossville is focused on being America’s first choice for design- oriented surface solutions to create beautiful spaces. From porcelain tile panels measured in feet—not inches to Crossville Porcelain Countertops, the company is committed to bringing new offerings and innovations to designers and architects that expand the possibilities of what tile can do and how it can be used.
